Opening Song: "One Last Breath" - Creed
When I walked into Yearbook class, I saw a paper on my desk with pink comments scribbled all over it. It was my Journalism homework, an article on school lunch *yawn* prices, and Surprise of the Century, it was selected to be published in the next issue of The Eagle's Eye, the school newspaper. I was shocked because I threw it together in about 30 minutes and it's shame because I know that it's definitely not my best work.
Yesterday we calculated the results of a political survey that our AP U.S. Government & Politics class created. The results made me glad that students aren't allowed to vote: Bush won the Presidential vote and the Neither Candidate option beat Kerry.
We had a senior assembly that day where we discussed the upcoming candle/candy/calendar/crap fundraiser, senior skit, and prom themes. I wanted the elegant, stylish Black & White New York Skyline theme, but of course, the majority wanted Hollywood (homecoming theme from three years ago) and Sand Castles (an option I don't quite understand).
Jessica stood up in the middle of the assembly to diss the DJ from last year's Homecoming and I totally agreed! That DJ was so bad my date and I walked out after about 40 minutes. Katie, our Class Secretary, always lashes out when we say that we didn't like the DJ b/c we wanted a "club DJ." This is true, but what people don't know is that the clubs don't start playing the dance mixes until about 1AM. That would be just great if our Homecoming wasn't from 7PM to 11PM! He played slow songs on an endless loop for an entire hour... that bugged me because I had to trade dates and dance with my actual date's friend, Desiree. The good thing was that I ended up liking Desiree (she was a whole lot nicer) more than my real date.
At the assembly I sat with Heather, Shannon, and Thiago. It surprised me that Marty and Heather weren't really on speaking terms anymore... especially since he was her 1st choice prom date. He recently had surgery on his foot; apparently, he didn't realize he was walking around with a broken foot for two months. Ain't that peculiar?
Things looked brighter when I talked to Jeff for the first time in four months. Of course it would be the one day that I was sickly-looking (red eyes). He laughed at everything I said, which is something I missed (it made me feel better); he's doing alright and I'm happy to hear it.
After school I went to the first National Honor Society meeting of the year. We have a lot of community service projects to do: Christmas caroling at the local retirement home, Meals on Wheels, Relay for Life, Thanksgiving Dinner Packages, SPCA, Polar Bear Plunge, Red Cross Volunteer Work, Our Daily Bread (making casseroles for the homeless shelter), After-School Tutoring, etc.
Right after that I headed outside for Marching Band practice. Us clarinet players were freaking out because it was raining out and for eight years my band instructors have told me to never EVER get the instrument wet. It was tough trying to march on that field; I must have fallen into the same pothole at least twelve times. Mr. Harouff, our director, told everyone, "If you get run over, it's your fault!" I must have stepped on the 4'0" girl in front of me so many times since she's not stepping in time and she's not using the 8 to 5 step. Oh well, if I trip and flip over the girl down there, it's your fault, Mr. Harouff!
Harouff loves our clarinet section because we're on top of everything (I'm very proud to lead Lauren, Dana, and Amanda). On another note, my section thinks I'm Jewish because I can actually pronounce Rosh Hashanah correctly. Go figure. In other news, Erica (my best friend's best friend) joined the Pom Squad yesterday.
What have I learned today? Old friendships never really die. Even though KTL isn't a friend of mine anymore, we sat together at the National Honor Society meeting and acted civil toward each other, catching up on each other's lives. Normally, I would be the first person to say "Dump the excess baggage," because you don't need fake friends, ones who only come around once you're back in the limelight. I have lots of old friends (i.e. Adrienne, Jeff, Jamie) who I don't have the chance to talk to very often but I love 'em anyway because whenever we do talk, it feels like no time has passed at all.
