Theme Song: "Livin' On A Prayer" - Bon Jovi
Tonight's our 2nd ALLIES Movie Night and I've been screening my new Queer Theory movies to make sure they aren't porn, LOL. Eating Out, for example, was begging for a screening. I wouldn't want to put it on and halfway through, see two guys eating each other out. I could see it now.
TV: *gobble* *gobble*Only four of us show up this time: me, Jai, Kim, and G. Morgan. Since the Huber seminar room is taken and Lynn has gone home, we decide to watch our movie in the Huber common room. Luckily, I live in the building so I just unplug my DVD player and bring down my massive tub of party snacks.
James: Sorry, guys...
Tonight's movie is D.E.B.S., based on the award-winning short film starring Melissa Etheridge's wife, Tammy Lynn Michaels. This full-length adaptation stars uber-hottie Jordana Brewster as a cuter, sweeter, more satirical clone of Demi Moore's lesbian character in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. In the movie, she falls in love with one of the "good guys," who just happens to be a girl. One of the good guys is played by Devon Aoki and all I have to say about that is... now I know why Miho never talked in Sin City... what a dreadfully annoying French accent.
It's a wonderful and very enjoyable dark comedy--it just shows that, as Molly and I both agree, there are a LOT of gay movies already out there that are much better than Brokeback Mountain. Its A-list stars, a-list director, and crisp mise-en-scene are the key to that movie's success. However, even straight guys just passing through the common room happily joined us while watching D.E.B.S.
During a quick restroom break, I'm left on the couch with just Kim and Morgan, when Morgan starts explaining the whole FUR thing to me... how some guys' spirit animals are wolves so they like to howl at the moon, how dog boys like to be scratched behind the ears, etc. Then, he starts scratching me behind the ears. EWW! "Do you like being scratched behind the ears?" "Umm, NO!" Of course, at that exact moment, Jai walks back in and asks, "Did I miss somethin'?!"
We go back upstairs to find Erica and Lori dancing by the elevator and the guys cheering them on while singing Bon Jovi songs... funny thing is that's sooo typical around here. Gotta love the Huber Heroes!
