Theme Song: "Return to Metroville" - Part 3 of The Incredibles Suite
Since I couldn't sleep a wink last night, I wake up around 4AM this morning and just listen to my Final Farewell CD. My RA, Craig, lives right down the hall and I bump into him on the way to the shower. Like everyone else I've met so far, he seems very friendly.
I walk down to Servo (the Dining Hall) and eat some potatoes and eggs for breakfast; however, the food is so rich I can only swallow a couple of bites before I'm full. After breakfast, I head over to the Practice Field where the Marching Band really gets down to business as we all start to execute and memorize the moves for our halftime show, The Music of The Incredibles. By coincidence, I end up being in the front line for the halftime show (with all the squad leaders), so it's cool to be an "honorary squad leader" alongside Amy (clarinet), Maggie (trumpet), Lina (low brass), Theresa (saxophone), Tristan (mellophone), Crazy Star Lady Megan (flute) and Jessica (flute). Terry Ann (my other clarinet squad leader) has opted to march towards the middle of the form. Even though I'm just a first-year, I believe the practice went surprisingly well and no one made any big mistakes or was out of step. After all, these are the best of the best band kids from their respective high schools.
After my not-so-good first impression of Servo that morning, I decide to head over to the Pizza House, a restaurant located across the street from my dorm, for dinner. Because of its location on campus, I initially thought it was a theme house or a fraternity or something. But on my walk home I see a menu plastered on the wall, so I KNOW it's an actual restaurant. And the pizza there is actually pretty good... but that might just be the extreme hunger talking.
After dinner I head back to Schmucker Hall for another two-hour music rehearsal. You see, that's the one thing I hate about Band camp--the schedule. There's absolutely no time for breaks (for showers and naps) on the schedule so we're all being worked like... uh, work dogs or something.
During music rehearsal, something Dr. Peddell says to the entire band strikes a chord with me personally: "Sing into your instrument." Now where have I heard that before? Oh yeah, that's exactly what Mr. Harouff, the new Band director at Northeast, said to us everyday during band practice. Well, I'll be damned... he was right--it does give you a rounder, fuller sound.
Immediately after the indoor rehearsal we have another 3-hour outdoor practice and then about an hour later most of us head to the Junction for a private viewing of The Incredibles. This was my first time seeing it and I have to say, it was INCREDIBLE! The special effects, the animation, the characters, the action, the drama/suspense... all good stuff. I especially like Elastigirl, whose overprotective nature reminds me of my own mama. Finally, the day ends on a high note.
That said, things are, in fact, getting better and I'm 100% ready for whatever life has to throw at me tomorrow.
