Journey to Brokeback Mountain (2.08)

Original Air Date: 02.11.2006
Theme Song: "Gone To California" - P!nk

As of now, we have about 12 inches of snow on the ground outside... of course! Anyway, around 5:45PM my fellow SOAR members and I meet up in Chapel Basement and then walk over to the Majestic Theater's 6:30 showing of Brokeback Mountain starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal. I'm happy because I finally get to wear my emerald green Brokeback boots with my trusty black leather pants... HOT! Jai has dressed up for the movie as well; she wears a straw hat and a rainbow scarf. Yee-Haw!

Jake and Heath

We teenagers are the first ones to get into the theater, and things are lookin' great until the rest of the audience shows up. Really, within 20 minutes the median age of the audience goes from 20 to 50. *cringe* And of course they all have to sit in the front row or on the ends... RRRrrr.

Throughout the entire movie, the older people are really getting upset about the cowboys not being allowed to be together, which was surprising to see; the lady in the front row just HAS to let out a sorrowful moan every now and then. That gets annoying. There's only one old man who almost gets bludgeoned by JiMBO's XL Brokeback Boot, but that's 'cause he keeps making FAG jokes and pretending to be utterly disgusted during the first sex scene. But after a while, he's sniffling worse than the woman sitting next to him.

Anna Faris

During the movie, I'm pleasantly surprised to see a lot of stars (who I wasn't expecting to see) in this indie movie, namely Anna Faris (star of Scary Movie & The Hot Chick), Kate Mara (who was wonderful as teenage lesbian cheerleader Vanessa on Nip/Tuck), and Anne Hathaway (The Princess Diaries).

Shockingly, a lot of people are red-eyed or in tears once the movie is over. But honestly, I'm more afraid than sad. I don't wanna end up like Jack and Ennis--afraid to be together because of what society thinks, forced to turn their backs on true love. That just hits too close to home I suppose. Speaking of which, Danny and I have emailed each other back and forth for a couple days now; it's nice. And I've sworn to myself this one thing: No more games. No more "randomly running into him" in Stine (using the vending machine), no more trying to arouse jealousy by "flirting" with people close to him, no more trying to convince other people to say his name so that I don't have to... This time I don't feel games are appropriate.

Show me 'Sexy!' Oh yeah, that's a good one!

That reminds me of a funny story! It's early November and I'm talking to Kelly about how nice that guy in our Creative Writing class is. I'm trying to get her to say his name by pretending I don't know it... Umm, kinda short... he sits next to you... She looks at me and says in horror, "That kid who wrote about the dog?! Derek?" Girl, you've sat directly next to him for the past 2 months (in a class of 16) and you don't know his name! LOL... *sigh* Gotta love ya, Kelly!
