Snow Ball (Part 1 of 2) (2.06)

Original Air Date: 02.05.2006
Theme Song: "Boy (Original Mix)" - Book Of Love

BALL!

After endless hours of debating whether or not I should go to the Snow Ball (GC's Masquerade Ball for Relief), I finally decide I'll go there for about an hour and leave unless it magically becomes fun. Ironically, I've been looking forward to the Ball since last August while I was looking at the Gettysburg pamphlet; however, it's not much of a masquerade ball... originally I planned to storm into the Ball dressed as a sexxed-up Cowboy clad in leather and awesomely authentic green boots (which I've purchased on eBAY).

Ambika and Spiderman

As soon as I walk into the ballroom I see crazy Ambika (with her blue feather mask) shakin' that thang with her boyfriend. Unfortunately, the music is Jazz/Swing, courtesy of the Buzz Jones Big Band; I can't groove to this, man! Like my Huber girls say, "It's a nice thought... but no." Apparently, the DJ doesn't come on until 2 hours into the dance (aka Midnight). I do every cheesy dance I know for a little bit (The Carlton, The Molly Ringwald, The Twist, The Swim, etc) as the band keeps playing that damn Nabisco Chocolate Chip Cookie song. At one point I make a joke about it to David, but I think he thinks I'm hitting on him so he goes off somewhere. HAH! To that notion all I have to say is: "I just learned your name 2 weeks ago! Don't flatter yourself, babe. M'hmmm."

Blondie, Jai, and Morgan

So... since swing music requires a partner and I'm flyin' solo tonight, I spend the first half of the dance chowing down on Tabasco-laced brownies and guzzling cups of punch. For a little while I help Jai look for her date--a girl in a tuxedo--but it's ironicially fruitless. After being glomped by Morgan, I leave the ballroom and relax by the Coffee Cart. Moments later, Sarah, who I met during ESL training, joins me and we have an hour-long conversation.

Sarah's a senior; she just got back from studying abroad in France. This semester she's tutoring a Japanese woman. She loves cheesy-ass Bollywood movies (y'know, those mega-Musicals from India). Shortly after arriving at the Snow Ball, she ditched her date (some guy). Once we finally hear the thumpa-thumpa of some 21st century music, Sarah and I head back into the ballroom. Somewhere along the way to the dance floor, Mark asks me to dance with him. I immediately brush him off (b/c of his new attitude), but after a few seconds I think "What the hell? This being such a romantic venue, why not help the boy out?" So I wait for a good song to play, find Mark, and dance with him. Well, at least he seems to have fun 'cause I'm just plain embarrassed... not because he's a dude but because he is incredibly off-beat and he's mimicking my moves so I feel like I'm looking in a funhouse mirror. *sad shake of head* I must flee!

Ally, Catie, and Megan

Dukka-dukka dun! Duh-dup dukka dun! Ooo, that's my jam, let me loose na'! The DJ plays "Sandstorm!" *gasp* Unable to control myself, I slowly make my way to the stage and start breakin' it down with some breakdancing and some carnivalesque tumbling. The crowd (at least the 100 who can see me) goes wild. And other people start following my lead. Oh yeah, Trendsetter, y'all! I hop off the stage once the song is over. Of course things get weird when some crazy-ass drunk guy gets up there, acts a fool, and falls offstage... Safety & Security has to literally drag him offstage as he argues with them all the way down. A popular urban legend going 'round after the dance is that the Fuzz forced me to stop dancing... BTW, not true. I voluntarily gave up the spotlight once "Sandstorm" was over.

Kerry, Sarah, and Jen

Lightly coated with sweat I link up with Sarah again so we can chill by the Coffee Cart and talk some more. On the way out, I run into Danny and his date (some chick); they look very cute together. Sarah and I go out and talk some more about our roommates and such. She and Jenn get along so well, and like me, Sarah has become a clean freak in order to compensate for her roommate. Actually, I don't have to do that nearly as much anymore; Sean's getting VERY good at taking care of himself. I'm such a proud papa. *tear*
